Principal focus of the project:

The project focused on delivering a pilot intervention to raise motivation amongst GCSE English students prior to examination by supporting learners to identify aspirations and barriers, and to enhance students' emotional resilience.

What is this about and what were the main findings:

The researchers concluded that students at Sparsholt College who received motivational input and support prior to their GCSE English examination achieved results that were significantly better than those for learners who were not part of the trial group. In addition, these students received 9 to 4 grades that were almost 28% higher than the college average for all GCSEs.
