A research report exploring the restructuring, simplification and streamlining of the Performance Review process, so that they are fitted around the Professional Development cycle within a college.
This research report focuses on both the evidence supporting a need for improvement in performance management, and the analysis of existing documents and semi-structured interviews with staff members to reach its conclusions. The research focused on the participant's appraisal perceptions and the process ease of use.
The research found that having a balance between meaningful job-related issues and personal aspirations was an objective for the organisation which was likely to increase the effectiveness of the Performance Review process. Trends at the time the research was conducted indicated that colleagues were encouraged to hear of positive developments in the application of the new process. All participants agreed that the length and paper-based format of the existing process were barriers to effectiveness
