A ThingLink by Riverside College, Halton. is a comprehensive interactive blog/research report, showcasing the project's activities, learning resources and responses.
The project aimed to explore the impact of employing a range of active learning strategies to improve the engagement of resit GCSE maths and English and Functional Skills learners by creating an environment of deeper learning.
8 maths and English tutors trialled a number of enrichment activities taken from templates designed by the Standards Unit, (based on e.g. dominoes, Monopoly, Cluedo etc.) with a wide range of learners. The response from the vast majority of students and all tutors was very positive, though it was noted that it was not a one-size-fits-all. Certain activities appealed to some learners more than others, for example, and levels of maturity and prior expectation of learning also played their part.
