Description:

The Photovoltaic Cell Project was a curriculum-focussed cross-department activity that aimed to build the students’ knowledge of and familiarity with renewable energy equipment and ideas. The project was the principle feature of the college's 'Our World Week' - a community celebration of sustainability that inhabits Cardinal Newman College for a five day period. The primary aims of the PV Cell Project were: to build understanding of renewable energy equipment; to link sustainable issues with the curriculum subjects; to create renewable energy resources; and to connect this project to the college’s long-term sustainability plan. The primary aims of Our World Week were: to encourage students and staff to reconsider their behaviour and approach to sustainability; to educate ourselves on the facts of sustainability and its role; to further spread the progressive sustainable message and encourage all to participate; to run self-assessment systems and surveys before, during and after the event to measure impact; to ensure that the positive outcomes of the project had a permanent effect; and to create a community project that generates a long-lasting social connection throughout the college.
