Through this project, SRC set out to develop a sustainable exemplar, working in partnership to stimulate behaviour change within the college and local community. To achieve this the college aimed to: reduce SRC carbon emissions, use energy monitoring to support the outcomes of teaching and learning; engage learners and staff in sustainable development through an innovative competition; establish SRC as a sustainability exemplar to demonstrate and disseminate best practice to other providers and the wider community; embed sustainable development within the policy and practice of the college; engage with the local community to enable them to contribute to the project; raise awareness and understanding of sustainable development approaches through the curriculum; work in partnership with Stockton Borough Council to explore further approaches to sustainable development; identify sustainability champions from staff, students and the local community; develop a sustainability package and embed the teaching of sustainability concepts through the College Virtual Learning Environment (VLE); and gain sponsorship, possibly from an energy company who would provide home energy monitors.
